European Champions Real Madrid (Spain) and South American Champions San Lorenzo (Argentina) will enter the competition at the Semi-Final stage. Neither side has played in this tournament since its re-launch in 2005, but Real did play in its earlier guise back in 2000 – they finished fourth.

The three clubs entering at the Quarter-Final stage are Asian Champions Western Sydney Wanderers (Australia), African Champions ES Sétif (Algeria) and North, Central American and Caribbean Champions Cruz Azul (Mexico). All three are making their debuts in the tournament.

Auckland City (New Zealand), Oceanic Champions, will be competing in the Club World Cup for a record sixth-time, having already appeared in 2006, ’09, ’11, ’12 & ’13. They’ve won two of their eight matches, and will play Botola (Moroccan League) Champions Moghreb Tétouan in the Play-Off.

Germany’s Bayern Munich won the competition last year, beating then-Moroccan champions Raja Casablanca 2-0 in the Final.
