Alonso and Button confirmed at McLaren

FERNANDO ALONSO will return to McLaren for the 2015 Formula 1 season.

The Spaniard will partner England’s Jenson Button, who has driven for the Woking-based team since 2010. Button’s 2014 team-mate, Denmark’s Kevin Magnussen, is retained as reserve driver.

Alonso raced for McLaren in 2007 alongside then-rookie Lewis Hamilton. But the two spectacularly fell out and both missed the title by one point to Ferrari’s Kimi Räikkönen, whom Alonso had replaced. That year also saw McLaren involved in the infamous Spygate scandal.

McLaren will now enter 2015 with their strongest line-up since Button joined Hamilton in 2010. Let’s not forget that McLaren and Honda have reunited for next season too.

After leaving McLaren at the end of 2007, Alonso returned to Renault for two seasons before joining Ferrari. That partnership saw Alonso finish second in the drivers’ championship in 2010, 2012 and 2013 to Sebastian Vettel.
